Upgrading Nurse Call System Supports Patient Rounding Initiatives and Increases Patient Satisfaction

Why consider upgrading your Nurse Call System? New wireless communication technology and advanced staff stations can allow a hospital to implement patient rounding initiatives that may have been inefficient or impossible with older technology. Research shows scheduled patient rounding improves patient care, safety, and satisfaction.

Such was the case at Person Memorial Hospital, a DukeLifePoint Hospital. A recent case study completed by Ascom details the positive impact of a Nurse Call System upgrade. Person Memorial Hospital, working with Pathway Technologies, implemented the Ascom Telligence Nurse Call System with integrated staff stations and wireless phones.

Ascom Staff Stations were configured with reminders to alert staff to perform hourly rounds, check vitals, conduct assessments, and comply with patient re-positioning best practices. Wireless phones gave nurses greater mobility and allowed them to more efficiently respond to patient needs. Person Memorial reports that cases of hospital-acquired wounds have dropped to 0% since the Ascom implementation; and Person Memorial posted gains in HCAHPS scores for nurse communications with patients and response times.
